Job Description

Hundred Acre Wood Forest Preschool is offering a Primary grades (grades 1-4) program and we are looking for an inspired educator to co-create our dream program!

We are a licensed non-profit childcare centre in Heathcote ON.  We are situated on 100 acres of meadow and forested land, with an indoor facility that reflects our outdoor learning philosophy.  Our outdoor spaces include fire pits, trails, hills to climb, climbing trees, bike tracks, natural playgrounds, and more.

The Primary teacher will have the opportunity to create and build a primary program that is child-led, emergent, and takes place in the natural and wild setting of Hundred Acre Wood.  The class will be a mixed age class of grades 1 through 4.  The educator will pull from educational methods such as Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia.  Students will be encouraged to ask questions and then research and pursue their curiousities.  The teacher will facilitate each child's development in the core competencies of the program.

The ideal candidate for this role is a leader and innovator in the field of outdoor education.  You have worked with the primary grades in an outdoor education setting and also have an understanding of their growth and development needs.  You are excited to build relationships with each child and to guide them in their learning and growth.  You believe in an alternative educational model for children and can communicate it's benefits to stakeholders.

Learning outcomes include:

1) Nature Connection

2) Sense of Self

3) Community Care

4) Physical Literacy

5) Academic Skills

in a small class ratio of 1:8.  The teacher will work independently while reporting to the director(s) and will follow the Hundred Acre Wood School Calendar.
